At a recent National 4-H conference, the HSUS somehow wangled a special session where they were able to not only hand out a brochure about "humane" treatment of farm animals, they also got to speak to the 4-H kids. There is something just wrong about that on so many levels. HSUS and PETA are notorious for going after young, impressionable kids. But really, speaking to kids who are almost programmed to be ranchers and farmers about lobbying, ending animal agriculture is horrific, IMO. How on earth did that happen?
HSUS proudly proclaims that they offer grants and training to shelters as well as now offering a "degree"! Yes, that's correct - you and your loved ones can attend HSUS University online and get a degree in Animal Studies, Animal Policy and Advocacy, or the ever popular Humane leadership. You really can't make this stuff up. They even offer an online course in Humane Euthanasia. I urge everyone to go and take a look at what is being offered - it is nothing more than pure unadulterated propaganda aimed at young people in an effort to push their now open agenda of non use of animals:
http://www.humanesocietyuniversity.org/index.html Each of the three credit classes costs $900. To earn a degree you must have 120 credits. Before you have a heart attack, you must have all your lower division classes to enroll so you only need pay HSUS for 60 credits. That's still $18,000 to get a degree in Animal Policy and Advocacy. I am astonished that this is actually considered a "university" but it is!
Indeed, HSUS is targeting our children. If you read the course contents it's pure AR indoctrination. Their page titled Resources for Parents and Educators should be an eyeopener for everyone. Adopt A Classroom is one my favorites - it features a wonderfully biased publication called KIND news.

At first glance, it looks pretty benign - but really look at what they are offering here. They are teaching children to advocate using the worst possible scenarios with cutesy pictures and puzzle games, etc. My husband is a teacher of over 30 years who would never think of preaching moral values that do not have a place in the classroom. http://www.humanesociety.org/parents_educators/
PETA is another group that is targeting children. They have a separate website exclusively for young people. PETA2 - http://www.peta2.com/TAKECHARGE/index.asp This little quote is from their Activism section:
"Remember, doing activism is as much a part of a day’s work as brushing your teeth or washing your face. If personal hygiene’s not your strong suit, there’s still hope—helping stop experimenters from swabbing burning chemicals into bunnies’ eyes is a bit more motivating than fighting bad breath and acne." The children on their STAR page are as young as 13. Ingrid Newkirk, co-founder of PETA has clearly stated they do not target children, but their flyer "Your Mommy is a Murderer" really isn't geared to people over 12.
Find out what is being taught in your child's school. Make sure your shelter isn't pushing "humane education" to your kids. I have never reached for the Nazi card, I find it abhorrent and demeaning, but in this case, it is apropos - this is a tactic used to train children. I read an column in the Sacramento Bee online the other day. The author discussed her recent Humane Day lobbying activities. She mentioned her vegan son harassing her (good naturedly, of course) about the fact that she STILL eats meat. He's being a good little brown shirt for the AR regime. It can happen here, it is happening here. Be aware, don't be paranoid, but never forget sometimes they really are following you!
